One Month Abroad, What I Miss Most…

By: Kelsi Kobata, class of 2018

After being in Florence for about a month, I still can’t shake away the feeling of being in a dream. I rise every morning to the chimes echoing from the bell tower and head out for an espresso at a corner cafe facing the Duomo. It was a bit overwhelming getting used to stepping out into the busy streets every morning trying not to get distracted by the leather markets and immaculately dressed Italians. Being in a bigger city has given me the opportunity to explore a new world and also to discover my own independence. While I’m meeting new people, creating new memories and adjusting to this new lifestyle, I can’t help but feel a little homesick. I miss my family of course, and a good juicy cheeseburger every now and then, but I especially miss my friends and life back at Marist. Luckily I have my River + Stone t-shirt that I wear proudly to always remind me of my beloved Marist community. Even from 4,000 or so miles away, I strongly represent my school pride with nothing other than River + Stone.
